which may well become the I-1 pattern for the whole motor industry, was made by leaders of 22 unions with members at Ford's last week. They decided to approach the Ford management at the next meeting of the national negotiating committee with a demand for a guaranteed payment for a five-day week.
The move is a direct result of the recent short-time working which hit Ford's as well as most other car sectors of the industry. Union leaders want to protect their members from the effects of another recession which might again cut their nay by more than half.
