Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Truck drivers in London could be fined up to £60 if they are caught in a crackdown on vehicles that use bus lanes illegally, causing traffic congestion and delay.

Transport Minister Glenda Jackson has launched a twoweek blitz by police and traffic wardens on drivers who park illegally in the capital's 461 bus lanes, or use them to jump queues at traffic lights and at road junctions.

According to the Department of Transport, one vehicle holding up a bus can cost the bus operator up to £22 a minute.

As part of the crackdown, London traffic director Derek Turner will unveil plans for fitting London buses with video cameras to identify vehicles using bus lanes illegally.

Only buses, bicycles and taxis—but not mincabs—are allowed to use bus lanes during restricted periods.

Penalties for bus-lane offences range from a £20 fixed penalty for driving in a bus lane to £60 for parking in one.

However, a DOT spokesman says truck and delivery drivers tend to be more responsible than private motorists in keeping off bus lanes.
