IVECO sunk money in World Cup sponsorship, hoping to gain the attention of at least some of the 6,640m people in 137 countries who were expected to watch the 52 individual football matches on television. And what happier outcome for the alliance of Fiat and Magirus than a final between Italy and West Germany? There was never a better each-way bet.
Each of the most outstanding players in the two semi-finals, the final and the third/fburthplace play-off was given an IVECO Daily Combi bus, although a van might have been more suitable to carry all his laurels.
IVECO also sponsors individual football teams in Italy, Germany and Monte Carlo, has backed major boxing events in America, and promotes Italian women athletes and ski and parachute acrobatic teams. And as if that is not enough, the group will be sponsoring the 1982-83 David Cup series and the first world athletic championships in Helsinki in August.
