MR. H. L. KENwARD, general sales director of the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., has just completed 25 years' service with the company, and, to mark the occasion, the staff under his control entertained him to a celebration 'dinner ill Birmingham on Friday last.

He also visited the Fordson farms at Boreham, Essex, where experiments in power farming and the cultivation of new crops are carried out. As is generally known, Mr. Ford is the president of the Ford Motor Co. of Detroit.

Oil from Coal—New Plant in Yorkshire.

The -first plant in the world for Making Diesel oil from coal has been opened at Gawber, near Barugh, Yorks. The new plant has been erected by Low Temperature Carbonisation, Ltd., at a cost of £25,000, and specializes in the production of high-grade oil for road-transport vehicles.,

£4,000,000 London Road Improvements.

The London County Council has approved the following improvement schemes to cost altogether £4,052,800: —Widening of I-Egh Street, Notting Hill, £1,230,000; Western Avenue extension, £877,000; Cromwell Road extension, £1,020,000; Queen Victoria Street widening, £203,000 ; Euston Road widening, £12,800; Southend Lane, Lewisham, widening, £50,000.

• A Glass* Development.

The maker of Glasso cellulose, oil and synthetic finishes, British Glasurit, Ltd., has decided to incorporate its trade name, Glasso, in the name of the company. Consequently, this has been altered to Glasso Faint Product, • Ltd., and the new name will be in general use as from to-morrow, August 1. No change has taken place in the constitution of the company or in its staff.
