Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Most of us will be aware of the modern phenomenon of personal identity theft a horrible crime that can see you stripped of all your financial assets without any warning. This week we report on an extension of this crime-company identity theft.

This is an unholy mess and the authorities have little idea of what to do. Government advice on identity fraud is aimed at individuals not companies, and what corporate advice does exist takes a domestic rather than international perspective. John Hebson, the proprietor, clearly doesn't have a case to answer but the cost of solicitors' fees and all the hassle is just the thing that could send a small business under.

We're doing everything we can to assist Hebson, but the message to all is: be careful. Ensure that your documentation is up to date and that you know where all your vehicles are all the time. If you spot anything suspicious on your bank accounts or you start getting strange phone calls, alert the authorities immediately. This sort of crime is becoming increasingly common so be warned.

• We're getting an increasing number of calls from international drivers worried about the state of affairs at the Port of Calais. Apparently the scanners have been switched off because their use infringes human rights. Never mind the fact that drivers are being abused and attacked as they make their way into the portand that they risk arrest if illegal immigrants are found on their trucks. We'll be tracking this issue over the coming weeks, so please get in touch if you have a story to tell us.
