• A British company is designing the prototypes for an 800-vehicle order from the Pakistani army.

The two and three axle 21tonners — called Yasoob after one of the Prophet Mohammed's horses — are said to be the first complete trucks to be built in Pakistan.

PSV International of Chalfont St Peter, Oxon drew up plans for the chassis for Karachi bodybuilder National Motors. Nine prototypes have been designed and two have been delivered. Components include Cummins, Caterpillar and Hercules engines; Eaton and ZF gearboxes, and ZF and Sheppard steering. At least 100 will be built this year.

This is the first major deal for PSV International, which was set up two years ago. Founder John Worker designed the Duple integral coach in 1984. The company does not manufacture vehicles, but "sees designs through the manufacturing process," says Worker.
