THE CURRENT ROUND of wage settlements looks like adding 2.5 per cent to hauliers' operating costs, according to the Haulage Association.

The estimate is included with an announcement that costs for this year (ignoring the wage rises which take effect from January 1) rose by 4.3 per cent nationally.

Another area to agree its 1984 wage scale is Eastern England, where all rates rise by £5.50 for 40 hours, and subsistence by 50p to £10.75. The 38-1 rate is now £100.25 and the tonne rate £94.75.
