TACHOGRAPH and tyre regulations in Northern Ireland are being altered.

The maximum penalty for failing to install or use a tachograph or for failing to return record sheets has been increased from £200 to £500. The maximum penalty for obstructing the inspection of tachograph equipment or record sheets has risen from £100 to £200.

And it is now necessary to have all tread grooves on tyres clearly visible, with at least lrnm deep tread pattern in a continuous band over at least three quarters of the tyre's width.

It is illegal to use a recut tyre on a commercial vehicle unless it has been recut in accordance with the manufacturer's recut tread pattern.
