Although built to a design weight of just under 46 tonnes, our Scania P112 4x2 tractive unit was put around the CM Scottish route at 32 tons gcw in February. Scania offers three cab types but the most popular, because of its price and kerb weight, has proved to be the intermediate height P cab fitted with a single bunk. As tested, the Scania's payload of 20.35 tonnes was typical at the then maxi
mum gross weight.
The least powerful of Scar three 11-litre engine variE rated at 206kw (280bhp) matched to Scania's GS770 E ter gearbox, with a 9.89 to 1 ratio driving through the s. dard 3.88 to 1 single reduc axle, gives a gradeability of c 1 in 5.6 but Scania's alterna range-change transmisE offers a much deeper 13.15 first gear.
The splitter is prefer however, for its easier mid rE gear changing. Journey ti were swift, despite some s showers. Overall average sr was 67.69km/h (42.1mph).
Fuel consumption was impressive, a total of 496 (109.22ga1) was used over 1184.6km (736.8 miles) route.
