Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Des 2500 DHS was one of many 32-tonners to be offered this year with a power unit rated at around 250bhp. This power to weight ratio produced some interesting results over CM's Scottish route — the 2500 set a new fuel consumption record of 38.07 lit/100km (7,42mpg). Its low kerb weight permitted a payload of 20.9 tonnes when coupled to our Crane Fruahauf tandem-axle boxvan trailer.

Equipped with the DHS turbocharged and charge-cooled 8.25litre engine and 12-speed ZF transmission, the Daf proved a willing worker and easy to drive. A high torque of 906Nm (668Ibft) allowed it to pull well at engine speeds as low as 1,200rpm. Service brakes performed well up to standard on the track at Mira and later, on the roller brake tester, but there was long delay in the release of the park brake.

A gradeability of 1 in 5.2 may leave some operators specifying a lower speed 5.53 to 1 final drive but most will stick with the standard 5.03 differential even though at 40mph the vehicle is unhappy in overdrive sixth high.

Daf's now ageing cab is still able to compete with its more modern rivals thanks to its all round vision and the good insulation from double glazed rear windows. Other features, such as electrically operated passenger window and air suspension seats, give an up to date specification but the omission of fresh air vents in the ventilation system and no steering rake adjustment make it look its age.
