THERE are a number of inaccuracies in Woodward's Way, CM November 19 you may wish to be aware of.

• (Column 2, paragraph 3). A period permit for one country costs £45, not £95. The latter is the price of a Community Quota permit, which allows the holder to travel freely to all EEC countries (prices will increase to £50 and £105 respectively from December). Community permits are in very short supply and are normally only offered to hauliers once a year, in exchange for a number of permits for one country (bilateral permits) already held by a haulier. The chances of a newcomer to international work obtaining a Community permit are virtually nil.

• The cost of single journey permits and multi-journey permits (per journey) will be increased to £2.80 and £1.70 in December.

• (Column 2, paragraph 5). Because permits are in short supply for France, West Germany and Italy, early application will not guarantee that such permits will be available. Hauliers should first check with IRFO before entering into any commitment.

• The article implies that permits are required for all EEC countries, whereas they are only required for France, West Germany, the Republic of Ireland and Italy.
