Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Mr S. J. B. Skyrme, executive director (manpower) of the National Bus Company, is to succeed Mr T. W. H. Gailey as chief executive of the NBC as from tomorrow, January 1. Mr Skyrme has been directly involved in the bus industry since he left school. Mr Gailey, who retires today, will become a part-time member of the NBC board. Mr F. A. S. Wood has been made chairman.

After an engineering apprenticeship with the late Belfast Omnibus Company (now part of Ulsterbus) Mr Skyrme completed his training in Scarborough with United Automobile Services. In 1949 he joined the British Electric Traction group and became chief engineer to East Midland Motor Services at Chesterfield, later holding a similar post with the Potteries Motor Traction Company at Stoke-on-Trent. In 1961 he became general manager of Southdown Motor Services.

After executive staff service with BET and the Transport Holding Company, Mr Skyrme was appointed chairman of all NBC subsidiary companies in the south-east region. It was early in 1971 that he was appointed executive director.

A member of the council of the PRTA, Mr Skyrme is also chairman of the National Council for the Omnibus Industry.

Mr Wood, who was nominated chairman designate of the NBC last June, has now been formally appointed chairman as from January 1, succeeding Mr Norman Todd. Mr Wood's appointment is a part-time one and will run for five years at an annual salary of £7750. He is chairman and managing director of Croda International Ltd.

Reappointed as NBC board members are Mr A. P. de Beer, a director of Wm Cory and Son Ltd, and Mr W. M. Little, deputy chairman and managing director of the Scottish Transport Group.
