1 ....TP to December 21, 12,054 vehicles had been sold by the British Transport Commission. Of these, 402 were disposed of in three companies and 11,652 in 4,103 units.

It is reported that Sunley Transport (Stafford), Ltd., paid about £100,000 for the Rugeley depot of British Road Services (The Commercial Motor, December 17). The depot was taken over as a going concern. Mr. Bernard Suntey, chairman of the new company, is chairman of Blackwood Hodge (Holdings), Ltd.

A further It vehicles have been purchased by Bristol Industries, Ltd., whose activities are fully described on pages 702-705 of this issue. Six of these vehicles—two eight-wheelers and four four-wheelers—are b a se d in London; two eight-wheelers and a fourwheeler in Bristol; and two eightwheelers in Birmingham. The vehicles are mostly Leylands and Albions, and are of platform type. They were offered' for sale in list 8.

SCOTLAND Seven more vehicles (22i tons) have been bought by Wylie and Lochhcad, Ltd., Glasgow.

Messrs. J. and D. Craik, Scone, have !Sought six lorries (211 tons) in their first purchase. Another new purchaser, Messrs. A. Scott and Sons, Barns of Claverhouse, by Dundee, have acquired four (16 tons).

Peter Saddler and Co.; Ltd., Leith, whose purchase of 15 vehicles has already been reported, have now made them over to Saddler's Transport, Ltd., Leith. They have an unladen weight of 61 tons.

Five vehicles have been assigned•to other operators by Mr. T. Q. MeGawn, 33 Castlehill Road, Ayr. Three (91 tons) have gone to Mr. James Agnew, Stranraer; and one each to Mr. T. McClure, Stranraer (31 tons), and 'Mr. John McGuffie, Drummore (31 tons)

Two (61 tons) of three lorries acquired by Mr David H. Connell, Bonnybridge, have been transferred to Mr. Campbell W. Duguid, Denny. The one left with Mr. Connell weighs 3 tons unladen.

Mr. J. G. S. Paterson, Bannockburn, has purchased two vehicles (61 tons). One (31 tons) has been made over to Mr. W. M. Tripney, Grangemouth, who has re-assigned it to Messrs. James D. Millar and Sons, Guardbridge. Mr. Tripney has also sold a lorry (31 tons) to Mr. John Stocks, Kincardine-on-Forth.

Clyde Road Transport, Ltd., Glasgow, have bought two vehicles (51 tons) from Mr. J. M. Allison, Glasgow; Messrs. McConnell and MeVie, Dreghorn, one (3 tons) from Moore's Motors (Ayr), Ltd., Ayr; Mr. William Cameron, Glasgow, one (51 tons) from Mr. Sam Anderson, Newhouse; and Messrs. Brown and Shearer, Aberdeen, one (3 tons) from Little Strickland Trading Co., Ltd., Little Strickland, near Penrith.

Five vehicles bought by Mr. Arthur Eddie. Fraserburgh. have been assigned; four (12 tons) to Messrs. James Eddie and Sons, Frascrburgb, and one (3 tons) to Mr. Alec Eyre, Fraserburgh Mr. Eyre has also acquired two other vehicles (6 tons).

The Scottish Licensing Authority has also granted special A licences to: Mr. George Stringfellow, Glasgow, for three vehicles (15 tons); Munro's Transport (Aberdeen), Ltd.. Aberdeen, one (51 tons); Messrs. Johnstone and Mackenzie, Inverness, two (61 tons); Mr. D. B. Spence, Killimster, Wick, one (21 tons); and J. and E, Transport, Ltd., Bacup, three (91 tons) based at Dundee. NORTHERN AREA Repeat purchases have been made by McPhee's (Newcastle), Ltd., City Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, of four vehicles (12 tons 12 cwt.), and S. Morton and Sons, Ltd., Bendor Garage, Wooler, two articulated outfits (10 tons 12 cwt). One of the trailers is fitted with a horsebox body.

Mr. J. E. Taylor, Oakroyd, has bought one lorry (3 tons 6 cwt.). It is his first purchase.

NORTH-WEST

Under Section 5 of the Transport Act, 1953, 18 vehicles based in the north-west have been transferred toN.M.U. (1954), Ltd., whose shares are now held by Contract (Motor Hire), Ltd., York. It was reported last week that they had acquired a 29-vehicle business. Sixteen of the vehicles involved in this purchase are based at Trafford Park, Manchester. They have

an unladen weight of 771 tons. The remaining two (5 tons) are based at Liverpool. A further 10 vehicles (36S tons) have been acquired by Mr. L. Gleave, Holly Bank, Audlem, near Crewe. Six, each at 3 tons unladen, have been assigned to Fairhurst and Jaffery, Ltd., Row of Trees Garage, Knutsford Road, Alderley Edge. Mr. Gleave has also sold an articulated outfit (4* tons) to Messrs. H. and C. Huyton (H. 1, Huyton), Dunriding Lane, St. Helens.

Three articulated outfits (191 tons) have gone to Mr. G. L. Jackson, The Cottage, Barrownook Moss, Biekerstaffe. Two lorries and a trailer (11 tons) have been sold to Messrs. H. and A. Pate. 39 Moorlands View, Edentieki, Ramsbottom, Manchester.

Other assignments authorized recently by the North Western Licensing Authority are as follows: Mr. E. S. Jones (F. S. Jones and Co.), 28 Larkfield Road, Livetpool, 17, one vehicle (4 tons), from Mr. F. B. Ford, Bramhall; Greens Hauliers (Stoke-on-Trent), Ltd., Lawton Heath End, Rode Heath, Stoke-on-Trent, one (51 tons) from Mr. J. Green, 86 Market Street, Crewe; Messrs. A. J. G. and R. G. Perkin (J. G. Perkin and Co.), II Silverlands, Buxton, one (61 tons) from Woodcocks Transport (Charley), Ltd„ Park Road Garage, Heskin, Charley; and Pearson (Hauliers), Ltd., 303 Vauxhall Road, Liverpool, two (151 tons) from Northern (Allied) Transport and Trading Co., IvIelkinthorpe, Penrith.

WEST MIDLANDS

The West Midland Licensing Authority has issued a special A licence to Mr. D. C. Poole, 21-27 Hunter's Road, Hockley, for six vehicles (351 tons), four (29/ tons) of which have been assigned to Mr. C. H. R. Ferric, Brownhills Motor Sales, High Street, Brownhills, who in turn has transferred them. to James Campbell (Transport), Ltd., Nottingham. A. Newhrooks, Ltd, Porthill Garage,. Porthill, have: had a lorry (5.1 ton) made "Over to them by Beresford Transport, Ltd:, High. Street. Tunstall.

Caudle, Ltd., 78 Moat Lane,Yardley, Birmingham., have assigned one vehicle (3 tons) to Mr. E. R: Ballard, 81 Glovers Road, Small Heath, Birmingham. . Mr. N. T. Lloyd, Tcmesidc. Garage, Ludford Bridge, Ludlow, has made over One (3 tons) to. Mr. J. E. Langley, The Farm, Leebotwood Alfreton Transport, Ltd., Meadow Lane, Alfreton, have bought tWo articulated outfits (III tons) from Clarke and CO. (Sutton Coldfieid), Ltd., Gate Lane, Sutton Coldfield.

Special A licences have also been granted to Messrs. F. N. and J. Griffin (Griffin Bros.), 193 Burling Road, Small Heath, Birmingham, for one lorry (3 tons), and to Mr. E. Sollis, 14 Windsor Road.

EAST MIDLANDS

Two units in list 8 are to be taken over by Messrs. Templemarr's Haulage, Aunley, near Stamford. They are Easton unit 5342, comprising-one vehicle (8 tons), and Peterborough unit 5105, one (4 tons). Unit 5759 (Leicester) has gone to A. C. Biggs, Ltd. 35 Stonebridge Road, Leighton Buzzard. it comprised two lorries (14 tons). One-vehicle units have been acquired by Mr. R. E. Howsam, The Firs, Lincoln Road, North Hykeham, Lincoln (Grimsby unit 4920, 7 tons);' and Mr. A. L. Shaw, Timberland, Lincoln (Scunthorpe unit 4848, 3 tons). E. D. Bamford (Contractors). Ltd., Alfreton, Derby, have had a vehicle transferred to them by W. H. Short (Contractors), Ltd., Newthorpc, Notts. Two vehicles (10 tons 2 cwt.) bought by H. J. Baldwin and Co.,. Baldwin House. 605 Mansfield Roa, Nottingham, have been made over to Bunny Hill Motors, Ltd., 132 Arkwright Street, Nottingham.

Messrs. G. R. and F. M. Lea, The Gables, Northfield Road, Messingham, • Scunthorpe, have taken over a vehicle (3 tonS) from G. and C. Johnson (Claxby), Ltd.. North Kelsey, Lincoln.

EASTERN COUNTIES Turners (Soham), Ltd., Soham, Combs, appear in the list of successful tenderers for units in list 8. They have bought Fordham units 5595 and. 5598. comprising a total of four lorries (281 tons). The'ir i

earlier purchases have been reported n The Commerrizil Motor from time to time.

Four vehicles, including two articulated outfits (13 tons). have also been acquired by Granges Transport Services, Ltd., Wells, Norfolk. They formed unit 4718 (Wells).

Potton unit 5476 has gone to Daniel Lewis and Bros., Ltd., 101 St. Ncots Road, Sandy. Three vehicles (IP,: tons) are concerned.

Two more vehicles (51 tons) have been acquired by Grimwadcs Transport, Ltd.. Rayleigh. The unit .concerned was 4318 (Hornet-in rch). Mr. H. Sayer, 54 South Road: Saffron Walden, who has bought unit 5490 (Crowland), has -divided the two vehicles concerned between Mr. J. W. H. Spicer, West Wratting (31 tons); and B. Goodwin (Littlehury), Ltd.. Littlebury, Saffron Walden (3 tons).

Messes. J. F. Wilderspin and Son. ChM. terin, Ely, are to take over two one-vehicle units. They are Peterborough unit 5106 (3 tons) and Forclham unit 5596

(4 tons).

One-vehicle units have also gone to the following: Mr. P. Jennings, Sawston, Combs (Potion unit 49)7, 3 tons); Norwich Distributors, Ltd., Norwich (Ipswich unit 4852, 3 tons); Messrs. C. J. Tribe and Sons, Leverington, Wisbech (Crowland unit 5663, 5 tons); Mr. L. Swan, Strethall. Saffron Walden (Stevenage unit 4607, 2.1 tons); Messrs. Page Bros,, Capel St. Mary, Ipswich (Upminster unit 5202. 4 tons). SOUTHERN AREA

Another seven units have been sold to W. H. Foot and Co., Poole, Who are understood to be acting as agents for haulage concerns. About 30 vehicles are involved.

Roper and Co., Wimborne, have purchased a 15-tonner, and Mr. F. C. Bennett, Kingston Blunt, Oxon, has been successfUl with his tender for one lorry (31 tons). .

WESTERN AREA Mr. 1-1. M. Robson, 5 Deer? Lane, Basingstoke, has been successful with three tenders in list 8. A Maudslay and Vulcan, both articulated outfits, and a Morris vim, are concerned. They will be added to the. vehicles already operating long-distance services.

A special A licence has been granted by the Western Licensing Aufliority to A. D.. Forsey, Ltd., Old Bristol Road, Worle, for two vehicles (81 tons).

LONDON AND HOME COUNTIES Guest Carriers (Hackney), Ltd., 9 Anton Street, London, E.8, have bought another six Luton vans (18 tons) from the special -traffics division of British Road Services. The units concerned, all at Tottenham. were 3026, 3027, and 5373.

Two units have been bought by Messrs: W. H. Humpbreys and Son, 1 Sydney Road. Watford. They are Bethnal Green unit 4205, comprising two vehicles (6 tons), and Stanford-le-Hope unit 5200, one vehicle (3 tons)..

Rotherhithe unit 4310 has gone to E. P.
