Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MORE GOODS vehicles were registered in July this year, compared to 1978, but bus registrations are down.

In Great Britain and Northern Ireland, 20,538 goods vehicles were registered, compared with 17,993 last year, while in Great Britain alone the figure rose from 17,440 to 19,961.

On the other hand, the total bus figures dropped from 647 to 589, and the Great Britain drop was from 641 to 574.

These include secondhand vehicles registered for the first time, as do provisional figures for January to July which show a slightly healthier figure for bus registrations. Goods vehicle registrations in Great Britain and Northern Ireland rose from 158,335 to 187,851, and the Great Britain figure alone rose from 154,148 to 183,471.

Bus registrations for the whole area rose from 5765 to 5770, while the Great Britain figure saw a drop from 5675 to 5670.

The figures were released last week by the Department of Transport.
