MORE THAN 50 per cent of car drivers interviewed in a nationwide survey by the Automobile Association's Drive magazine stated that despite the soaring cost of fuel, they would avoid public transport at all costs.
Only one driver in three thought sharing was practical. Drive challenged 15 car drivers to see if they could save fuel by driving techniques. The best four drivers achieved a saving of 8 per cent. Best driver was a 32-year-old coach driver, Ray Waterman.
