Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

rA.A DEVELOPMENT of their wellknown five-speed constant-mesh gearbox will be displayed at the Commercial Motor Show next month by E.N.V. Engineering Co., Ltd., London, N,W.10. This new unit, which like the original design will have a torque capacity of 275 lb.-ft., will have synchromesh engagement on the upper four ratios. Maximum use has been made of the available space inside the box, with the result that the synchromesh version is dimensionally interchangeable with the constant-mesh box.

It will be available with an overdrive top gear, and gear-change mechanism suitable for forwardand normal-control chassis layouts. The constant-mesh box also is now available with an overdrive top gear.

The conclusion of a manufacturing agreement with the Eaton Manufacturing Co., U.S.A., has been announced, whereby E.N.V. will produce the Fuller 5A43 transmission in England. This is a five-speed constant-mesh box with a torque capacity of 3401b.-ft., and versions with overdrive-top will be available.

E.N.V. will be exhibiting also modified versions of their double-reduction finaldrive assemblies. The gearing with 10-in.diameter crown wheel has been improved by the addition of a pinion nose-bearing to give increased mounting rigidity, whilst a version with an 11.5-in.-diameter crown wheel and an output torque capacity of 5,000 lb.-ft., has been developed. An interesting feature of this unit is that the primary reduction can he mounted in any one of 12 positions to vary the position of the input coupling flange. Another new development is the N.T. 171 single reduction differential, with 9.875-in, crown wheel and an output torque rating of 3,000 lb.-ft.

An interesting new axle of 2/2.54on capacity has been introduced. This has a system of bevel reduction gears at the hubs giving 2-to-1 reduction between the differential and the road wheels, and is available with ratios of between 7 and 13.5 to 1. Some of the larger E.N.V. axles are now available with fully floating half shafts, whilst provision is being made for the fitting of disc brakes on some types.

More Power From 6.354 1VIODIFICATIONS to the fuel-injection LVI pump and valve porting have resulted in the output of the Perkins 6.354 six-cylinder direct-injection diesel engine being increased from 112 b.h.p. to 120 b.h.p. at the same governed speed-2,800 r.p.m. The maximum torque output of 260 lb.-ft. remains unchanged.
