Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DES1DES their well-known Cary

Laininaire system of progressive suspension, William E. .Cary will be featuring two other variable rate suspensions at the Commercial Motor Show. These are the Cary Laminette, which is to be introduced at the Show, and the Gregoire Atmospheric suspension, which C:ary :ire exhibiting for the first time in the U.K.

The Cary Laminette is similar in operation to Cary Laminaire, but histead of the spring rear shackle being replaced by a short fixed leaf spring which supports the end of a lengthened main spring, it is replaced by a bracket incorporating a short spring and pivoted in the standard shackle bracket. An 8to 10-in. longer main spring is employed and the rear rolled eye is located in a rear pivot on the special bracket. As the load is applied, the springs roll together shorten ing the main spring effective centres so progressively increasing the spring rate until, when fully laden, the normal rate is obtained.

Gregoire Atmospheric suspension is now being marketed by Cary. it combines leaf spring suspension and a form of air suspension. A neoprene diaphragm pressurized to 14.7 psi. is mounted on the chassis above the spring. A plunger is fitted on top of the spring so that when load is applied to the vehicle the plunger comes into contact with the diaphragm—which acts as a cushion. This means that when the vehicle is empty, the load is carried by the leaf springs and the pressurized diaphragms come into operation as the vehicle is loaded. A similar system, also of Gregoire design, has been used at the rear of the Renault Dauphine car for a number of years.
