Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A NEW type of 6 by 2 commercial

veh icle conversion has been announced by Primrose Third Axle Co.. Ltd., Blackburn, Called the Rear-ASteer, it is believed to be the first of its kind produced by a British manufacturer.

The conversion, which will be seen at the Commercial Motor Show, is designed for application where in manoeuvrability is reqUired together with a fixed equipment payload. It differs from any standard 6 by 2 vehicle in that the second steering axle, which is matched to the front axle, is fitted immediately forward of the driving axle and tracks with the leading steering axle.

Two interniediate steering arms are used in conjunction with the side steering arms and the original drop arm and steering units are retained. The suspension is based on the balance beam principle with the front ends of the second steering axle springs being fixed by means of specially-designed mounting brackets. The springs of both the driving and rearsteering axles have a capacity proportional to their load, with the design of the suspension rocker beam ensuring that the loadings of both the second steering and driving axles reach their recommended maxima simultaneously.

The footbrake operates on all axles and the handbrake is fully compensated on both the rear-steering and driving axles.

A half-section of this assembly will be displayed on the Primrose stand, and a Dodge with the new conversion will be on the demonstration park.
