the standard Roman 6 Adding a third axle behind the drive axle of a Roman 4 x 2 16-tonner has enabled the Primrose Third Axle Co Ltd of Blackburn, Lanes, to uprate • the vehicle to 24.39 tonnes (24tons) gross.
Extra traction is a further benefit obtained by a Hi-lift device fitted to the drive axle on which the load can be increased via air bellows activated by a solenoid valve.
Complete with an aluminium alloy tipping body, built by the Cottingham Bodybuilding and Engineering Co Ltd near Driffield, and Telehoist single-ram tipping gear, the unladen weight is kept down to 8,28 tonnes (8ton 3cwt).
