Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

With so many manufacturers and importers in

Ireland, Irish hauliers need never be short of a trailer. Patric Cunnane reviews the market.

DENNISON TRAILERS

Dennison Ttailers has been strongly pushing its extendible units which are available in a range of options to suit most operations and, says the company, are particularly useful in meeting the move to 44 tonnes on Irish roads. Dennison's chief executive Shay O'Connor describes the new range as a breakthrough."They can operate legally at 44 tonnes and can be shortened for flexibility" he says. The latest addition is a sliding mixer, launched at the National Ploughing Championships at Naas in September.

O'Connor cites the sliding tipper as a good example of how extendible trailers benefit operators."With a standard four-axle rigid a tipperman carries up to 19 tonnes; with a sliding tipper on an artic combination he can get up to 29 tonnes.or 50% more. One customer reports earning an extra E175 a day on each vehicle."

New developments in the company include a research & development department in its Naas headquarters and the opening of a retail parts department on site, offering customers a one-stop shop for their maintenance requirements.

O'Connor reports strong sales in tippers, trombones and sliding skeletal trailers. He joined Dennisons in 2000, after 13 years as group logistics manager of Glanbia. and has been impressed by the level of expertise around him:"It's a family business with several family members working here, all good in their particular tield. They are all experts. There's nothing about trailers that the Dennison people don't understand — they live, sleep. eat and breathe trailers."

One of the family is marketing manager Melissa Dennison, who married a Dennison brother. She realises the importance of putting the product before the customers: "We once took an order at the CV Show for 250 trailers. Of course, you get many enquiries as well; the important thing is to follow up interest within a couple of days." Contact:00353 (0)45 866 468
