Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

manufacturer Spillers Specialty Feed at Wolverton has operated as Effem Equine. Transport manager John Fernyhough runs a mixed fleet including a Daf XF and Scania 420, both at 44 tonnes; a Scania 340 6x2 rigid and a Volvo FM12 300 6x2 rigid at 26 tonnes working on own-account and contract work. "The fleet will be expanding," he told us and I are already looking at the Scania 470. My 420 was a top-notch motor in its day but it's nearly five years old now and is a bit of a drag at 44 tonnes. I understand that this Euro-3 with HPI has more torque low down,

"Overall styling looks the part and Scania 's paintwork always looks smart. We visit mucky farmyards so I specify the retracting lower step. It should be standard. The steps stay clean and the muck stays out of the cab. We've had no backache problems with the seat but the driver could do with more places to keep his bits and pieces. Were looking at the Topline to give a bit more room. The outside locker is OK. The exhaust box cover tends to work loose. Suzie access is all right but occasionally they get caught on the trailer. A suzie boom is probably the answer. We don't suffer many paint chips at the

front but the bumper blanking plates have a habit of falling out and we get a few broken headlamps."

Driver Keith Palmer says: 'I like to able to adjust the position of the steering wheel. The floor is different to ours and our gearstick has a collar for the range changethe two sw•tches are better. Our splitter has been giving us trouble recently. This gear change is so quick and the brakes are better than ours. It's very quiet, and for a tractive unit I can't fault the ride. It doesn't roll as much as our XF.

'There's not much braking from the exhaust brake at low revs. I prefer a separate foot button control but the engine pulls great without using a lot of revs it took just two changes from that roundabout to get back up to 54mph. At some sites, in hot weather, we have to keep the windows closed to keep the dust out so air conditioning is needed to keep the cab cool. I like to have a wide-view mirror on the offside and an adjustable mirror for the nearside to be able to see when reversing."
