Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ELECTRIC VEHICLE lobbyists have added their voice to the pressure for EEC tachograph regulation to be reduced in scope.

In contrast with the vested interests of the tachograph manufacturers (CM, October 16) AVERE, the European body representing electric vehicle interests, visited Brussels last week to urge the EEC Cornmission to exempt electric vehicles from hours and tachograph requirements.

The delegation, led by Electric Vehicle Association and AVERE president Lord lronside and advised by former Department of Transport head of road freight Reg Dawson, said that the need to comply with hours and tachograph regulations deterred potential users from buying electric vehicles.

They pointed out that many of the vehicles powered by electricity were, in conventionally powered guise, just below the 3.5 tonne threshold for the regulations, and it was only their batteries which brought them technically in scope.
