Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The first York-Neville Tandem-Dump semi-trailer dumper to be exported as a knocked-down build-it-yourself pack, complete with assembly instructions, has just been shipped to South Africa. Packaging will later be applied to all types of trailer by the York Trailer Co. Ltd. to reduce shipping costs. The trailer's running gear, tipping gear and accessories are packed into the body and the package occupies only half the normal shipping space and attracts only half the freight charges.

The complete package weighs 5 tons and measures about 2411 by 811 by 6ft 9in. compared with a space of 2711 by 811 by 1111 occupied by an assembled trailer. The South African unit will be assembled at the New Germany, Natal, works of Henred Trailer Engineering Co. (Pty) Ltd., York's distributors in southern Africa, but the instructions that are included in the pack are designed to allow the customer himself to do the assembly work.

When dispatched the packs are enclosed in tarpaulins so that they can if required be shipped as deck-cargo at a reduced freight cost. The Peterborough Export Packers Company handle the packing and dispatch from the UK.

The Tandem-Dump, introduced a few months ago, is an all-steel, chassis less tipper designed for heavy-duty operation at the maximum legal gross weight of 32 tons, and in anticipation of higher gross operating weights being legalised it is plated for a gross trailer weight of 31 tons. With a six-wheeled tractive unit of average weight the payload is around 21 tons at the 32-ton-gross limit.

The body of the Tandem-Dump tips about the pivot point of the suspension and all the trailer wheels are in contact with the ground during tipping. The tipping pivot point is 12in. from the ground compared with the normal distance of about 48in. Tipping stability is enhanced by the all-rubber suspension based on chevron-rubber springs which are mounted in pairs on the tubes of the York 10-ton axles and have a laden/ unladen deflection of only lin. There are duplicated bump stops under the axle tubes to limit axle inclination.
