ANOTHER LE TOUQUET AIR SERVICE.

Following last week's notice of a Heston-Le Touquet service by British Air Navigation Co., Ltd., it is now announced by Messrs. Wrightson and Pearse, Heston, that they also are to operate on this route. Commencing the Thursday before Easter their Dragon aircraft are running three daily departures outward at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., arriving at Berck an hour later. Return services leave Berck at 11.30 a.m., 2.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. On Tuesday next there will be an 8.30 a.m. departure from Berck. The fares are £3 single and £5 return.

Spartan Air Lines.

Spartan Air Lines, Ltd., which operated last summer a Heston-Cowes service, is still not quite ready to issue its programme for this year. It is not operating any regular Raster service, but may be conveying parties.

Carlisle Aerodrome Opened.

Carlisle municipal aerodrome was officially opened last Week. The Mayor of Carlisle and members of the city council flew from Landon to attend the ceremony, calling en route at Belfast.

Heston Tuition Progress.

The flying hours at the Heston school of Airwork, Ltd„ for the whole of March, 1933, were already surpassed by March 18, 1934.

Good. Work in the Near East.

A letter from Mr. R. O. I. Muntz, deputy manager of Almaza Airport, Cairo (controlled by Misr-Airwork, S.A.E.), arrives with news of the company's activities up to the middle of March. Excellent progress is being made on the Alexandria, Upper Eqpt and Palestine regular services, which in one week handled 181 passengers. Also Many good charter flights are being undertaken and much aircraft servicingwork is being done.

Aeronautical Education at Hatfield.

Hertfordshire Education Committee will co-operate with the de Havilland Aircraft Co., Ltd., in providing a technical education for workers transferred to the company's new Hatfield works from Edgware.

The company will provide the school and equipment and the Hertfordshire authority is asked to contribute towards the cost of instructors at everting classes Courier's Reception in India.

R. K. Dundas, Ltd, the agent ill India for Airspeed, Ltd., Portsmouth, reports that the demonstration Airspeed Courier has been chartered by the Viceroy of India for a journey from Delhi to Patna and back (total about 1,100 miles), which was made partly through stormy weather, and using a

small landing ground at Patna. • The Chief Inspector of Civil Aircraft, in passing the machine for the Eight, commented on its exceptional condition. This aircraft has carried out some 200 hours' flying since it left England on December 19. It has a Siddeley Cheetah engine.

Signs of a Rail-Air Struggle.

Railway Air Services, Ltd., has now been registered with a nominal capital of £50,000. Brig.-Gen. Sir Harold Hartley, vice-president of the L.M.S. company, is to be chairman. Some de Havilland D.H.86 four-engined 10sealer biplanes (illustrated in this paper on January 26) have been ordered.

The Railway Clearing House has, it is understood, issued instructions to all its booking agents that they must not accept bookings for any air-transport company not a member of the International Air Traffic Association. This we believe rules out all operators in this country except Imperial Airways, -• Ltd. The air-transport section of the Society of British Aircraft Constructors,' Ltd., has instituted negotiations with the Railway Clearing House on this serious matter. The section held a meeting on March 26.

Progress with New London-Plymouth Air Line.

In the week to March 25 Provincial Airways, Ltd., flew 5,100 aircraft-miles on the new Croydon-SouthamptonHaldon-Plymouth line. Bookings for Easter are building up, including bookings for the company's inclusive weekend trips. A 12-guinea Easter weekend is offered at a selection of resorts and hotels, this covering practically 'every expense, including terminal, road transport. The company's Dragon is due to he on service this week-end.

LIVERPOOL-BELFAST LINE STARTING.

From March 28 Midland and Scottish Air Ferries, Ltd., is running from Hooton and Spoke twice daily services to the Isle of Man and Belfast, with departures outward at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and homeward at 7 a.m. and 1.10 p.m. The trip takes three hours. The fares are 3 single and £5 return.

Heavier Romforcl-Paris Traffic.

In the week to March 23 Hillman's Airways, Ltd., carried 61 single-journey passengers on the Romford-Paris line and made charter flights to Heston and .Yeadon: also 12 passengers were taken to Liverpool for the races, two Dragons and a Puss Moth being employed. For Easter the company is concentrating on Paris traffic, for which bookings are heavy.

London-Berlin in Four Hours.

. The Deutsche Lufthansa summer thne-table will come into force on May I. The Junkers JU82 16-passenger machine is to be put on the BerlinLondon service and the return trip to Berlin will be possible within the day.

Warnings in. Newcastle.

. Mr. V. G. Crudge, of Imperial Airways, Ltd., visited Newcastle-on-Tyne a few days ago and addressed the local chamberof commerce on air-transport progress. pevelopments, he said, would take place within the next few months, and those towns and cities with the best aerodromes and best positions would reap the advantages.

Belfast Aerodrome Reclamation.

The annual report of the Belfast Harbour Board states that 19 acres of land on the east side of the city have now been reclaimed for aerodrome purposes.

Spartans for Shoe Salesmanship.

The first of two Spartan Cruisers ordered through Henlys, Ltd., Heston, by the famous Bata company of Zlin, Czechoslovakia, left England a few days ago. .

A Start Made at Edinburgh.

We are informed by Mr. S. H. Handasyde, 9, Marchmont Street, Edinburgh, who has plans for the development of an aerodrome for that city, that as a preliminary step a flying club is to be started. Mr. Handasycle would like to hear from persons who will give financial or other support.

Full Automatic Control for Aircraft.

The automatic-pilot device invented by Mr. J. Pollock Brown has been developed to exercise fore-and-aft as wellas lateral and directional control of an aircraft, and will shortly be tested in big air liners. The weight is about 30 ih
