Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

CUMMINS HAS suffered a further blow to its European market: Dennis has decided to go with Volvo-Deutz engines at Euro-4.

This follows hot on the heels of the recent warning from Paccar that it may be retiring Foden — another of Cummins' maj or European customers.

In future all Dennis Eagle Elite chassis will be powered by 7.2-litre Volvo-branded engines Ak* manufactured by Deutz inGer man); in place of the Cummins 5.9litre 1SBe and 8.3-litre ISCe engines currently fitted at Euro-3.

NormanThoday,Dennis Eagle's MD, marketing, explains that the Volvo-Deutz package was particularly attractive from a performance point of view.

Euro-4 NOx emissions legislation will be met on Deutz-powered Dennis Elite models by urea-fed SCR. Although room has to be found on the chassis for the AdBlue tank, Thoday does not believe that fuel capacity will be significantly compromised.

It is understood that Cummins pitched for the Euro-4 Dennis business but, because of the chassis maker's relatively small volumes (only 794 Elites were registered in 2004), enquiries were channelled through the UK distributor Cummins Diesel rather than being handled as a direct OEM supply account.
