Strike action at an aggregates depot in the South-East has forced the depot operator to reinstate four operators. David Craik reports.

A FOUR-DAY strike involving 45 hauliers working out of Bardon Aggregates' West Drayton depot las led to the reinstatement of :hree of them who were sacked from the site a fortnight ago.

One owner-driver involved in the strike alleges the dismissals followed the election of the three operators to the depot's haulage panel committee. "Bardon did not want these hauliers on the committee," he claims. "We believe they were unfairly dismissed. This was a challenge to democracy and we had to take strike action."

The trucks parked outside the depot displaying banners from Fri day 17 June when the sackings took place until Wednesday 22 June.

An offer to reinstate two of the hauliers did not satisfy their colleagues: "We wanted everyone reinstated. The company finally agreed to the third haulier returning last Friday morning."
