A West Wales truck driver who disconnected his tachograph and drove for hundreds of miles without recording was fined a total of 21,860 by the Llanelli magistrates.

Peter Thomas, of Pottery Street, Llanelli, admitted 19 offences of falsifying tachograph charts, failing to use his tachograph properly and taking insufficient rest.

What records existed showed that Thomas had driven far 6/2 hours without taking the required break, said Stephen Williams, prosecuting for the DOT. The offences were revealed during a routine check carried out by traffic examiners. Thomas, who was said to be on sickness benefit, was ordered to pay the tines ort at the rate or 1_ I U per week.
