Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BY IAIN SHERRIFF FILE effect of the unofficial stoppage of ntightliner traffic through London (see page 30) has been felt in Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, Peterhead, Fraserburgh, and elsewhere.

Johnnie Walker Ltd., the whisky distiller at Kilmarnock, told me its traffic had been switched to road in common with all other regular Freightliner users.

Clyde Paper Co., Glasgow, and A. Pirrie and Son, paper makers in the North East of Scotland, are both using road to retain new markets which Freightliners helped them capture earlier this year. Pirrie has a contract with BTC and when BR is unable to cope BRS move the traffic at the same rates as BR.

"We are agreeably surprised at the speed and co-operation of road operators", said a representative of Wm. Donald and Son, meat wholesalers, Aberdeen. Meat which left Aberdeen on Tuesday morning was delivered at Smithfield on Wednesday morning.

MacFisheries Ltd., who use refrigerated containers for frozen-fish traffic from Fraserburgh, told me: "The road operators have been most helpful."

J. Lyle and Co., Glasgow, carpet manufacturers, are contracted to Tartan Arrow who operate a liner-train service from Glasgow and this traffic is also moving by road.

NEW SERVICE FOR NE?

The TRTA maintenance inspection service may soon be available in the North East of England_ Already market research into the need for the service has 'started and the scheme may start later this year.
