Tenth Congress of German Professional Fire-brigade Officers.

At the tenth congress of German professional fire-brigade officers, held. at Berlin, Captain Reichel, of Berlin, read an interesting paper on "Experiments and Innovations in the Berlin Fire-Brigade, and the Labours of the Automobile Commission." This commission u-as entrusted with the task of obtaining statistics relative to the number and kinds of self-propelled vehicles used in German fire-brigades, and obtained much interesting information. At the present time, said Captain Reichel, Germany possessed 114 fire-extinguishing automobiles, the bulk being electrically driven. Berlin headed the list with four complete sets, Charlottenburg, Cologne, Krefeld, Aachen, Hamburg and Hanover following. Twenty-eight cities could show automobiles, while 14, amongst them Bremen, Chemnitz, Dortmund, Dresden and Munich, possessed steamdriven vehicles. By way of a grand nincling-up of the congress, there was a special parade of Greater-Berlin's fire-brigade automobiles fully manned, on the Doberitz military road. The Schtineberg men led off, Berlin's 16' electromobiles bringing up the rear of an extremely-interesting procession. Over a section of the road the vehicles were driven at top speed. Twenty-six fire-extinguishing automobiles, besides officers' cars, took part in the parade. Herr Sehustherus, Chief Burgomaster of Chariot tenburg, witnessed the parade in his official capacity. The adjoining illustration includes some of the participating electromobiles.
