A. gleam of satisfaction came over at least one face when it was known, at Liverpool, that Agricultural the R.A.S.E. trials !Moto,. Mats, for agricultural tractors will take place at Baldock—the Saunderson and Gifkins machine will not have to be taken very far. I understand the date is fixed for 12th August next.

The Royal Show number was on sale at Smith's bookstall, in the show ground, just after 11 on the opening day,

Copies, but a long time be fore that I was given to understand by the bookstall clerk, people were clamouring for copies. Our express edition is becoming a feature of the opening day of the show, and all commercial-motor exhibitors were to be seen eagerly perusing our reports, and scanning the illustrations of the stands.

Clamouring for The impression was certainly on my mind that matters were completely ar

ranged between the Manchester Show. S.M.M.T. and the

Manchester Show authorities, but I was told, at Liverpool, by one who knows, that affairs are not yet finally settled. The S.M.M.T., when it has control, will have need to go warily with some of the steam people. Methods that are, perhaps, suitable with the large petrolengine concerns do not quite appeal to some of the tractor and steam-wagon makers. Some were alienated at the last Olympia Show. and if they are to be secured for next year's Manchester Exhibition tact must be used. I know a few who are not disposed to join the S.M.M.T. at present, but they will not, on that account, be content to be put in any odd corner at Manchester. and I should recommend the S.M.M.T. not to be too adamant in these rules for the time being. The Society will. no doubt, gain the confidence of the steam people by-and-by, but it must show them a little more consideration than was given at Olympia. Meanwhile, it is to the Society's interest' that next year's Manchester Commercial Vehicle Show shall be thoroughly representative.

We still encounter people who think that favourable article's in this journal

A Smart and that one merely Correction has to give us their

version and we do the rest, providing we are paid; one manufacturer must have had a rude awakening recently. He rang up the Editorial department, and proceeded to give sonic details of an accessory used in connection with cabs, and said he wished an article to be written

round it for publication. A member of the stall, who was at our end of the telephone, did not agree that the subject was new, or ef sufficient importance to warrant the inclusion of the desired article in our columns, whereupon the inquirer quickly explain a' that he would he prepared to pay for it. It was suggested that he had lung up the wrong number—that he required the advertising department, but the inquirer protested— No "Oh. very well, then," said our representative in acrid tones, " you evidently think you know the right department. but goe r,2 rung up the wrong paper
