Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A disgruntled haulier says inadequate overnight security at truckstops over the past two years has left him with a bill of up to £1,500 to repair slashed curtainsiders.

The operator says his fleet has been attacked on up to 30 occasions up and down the country and says it is a problem which affects nearly every operator.

"This must be addressed," the company director says. "We are paying for overnight parking fees and then paying £50 each time to repair the curtains."

Although the company has not had products stolen he says this is down to the produce it transports, mostly bulk powder. However, he does know of colleagues who have had goods stolen in this way.

The company's latest slashing problem came last week at Granada's Grantham stop. "It seems that at every truckstop anyone can drive in or out at night and slash curtains," he says. "We have made the industry aware of this problem as should others before we lose customers."

Raymond Wilson, manager of Granada Services in Grantham, says the slashing incident last week was the first he has heard of. He intends to raise the matter of security at the lorry park in a meeting with Granada head office early next month, He declined to comment on overnight security at the lorry park.
