Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A FREE advisory service on vehicle loading is being offered by Weighwrite Ltd, 49 West Street, Farnham, Surrey, to operators who are having problems with overweight vehicles.

The company has been developing dynamic axle weighing equipment in collaboration with the DoE for the past few years and during' weight checks conducted during 1974/75 16 per cent of vehicles weighed have been found to be overloaded. This suggests that over 20,000 vehicles on the road each day are overloaded, according to Mr Len Gorman, managing director of Weighwrite.

For instance, the hydraulic presses used by local authorities to compact material in refuse collection vehicles creates an imbalance in the load, he has pointed out.

Now that the company has supplied 10 of these units to the DoE for roadside check purposes at which 100 vehicles an hour can be weighed, Weighwrite feels that its advisory service would be of interest to those operators who want to stay out of trouble.

Operators wishing to take advantage of the service will be asked to fill in a simple form giving details of vehicles and traffic, and a representative from the company will call and advise them on loading problems.
