• A joint tours department has been set up by two National Bus Company firms, East Kent Road Car Co Ltd and Maidstone and District Motor Services Ltd, in order to provide a wider choice and better facilities for Continental and British holidays.
Mr John Perkins, East Kent tours officer since 1955, who will head the new unit, said that both firms would continue, however, to operate separate tours under their own names, issue their own brochures and use their own drivers. "But by closer working we shall be able to offer a wide range of tours and simplify bookings for people living in the area of the 'other' company," he explained.
Mr Perkins will be planning itineraries for both companies.
East Kent has run an expanding tours department for many years while Maidstone and District operates an extensive tours programme with a smaller number of Continental tours, which will now be expanded.
