Liquidator lain Fraser of Tenon says the company started to make losses last year, and recent EU moves to drastically cut fishing quotas (CM 28 Nov-4 Dec 2002) forced the company to re-examine its situation. "The directors saw the writing on the wall with the way fishing is going."
Fraser is also dealing with the winding-up of Benzies Transport, which had its Operator's Licence revoked last April following drivers' hours offences and falsification of tachograph records. Managing director Philip Benzie was disqualified from holding or obtaining an 0-licence in any area for five years, and directors Ewan and Catherine Benzie for two years. After the revocation, the company directors "tried to sort it out themselves", says Fraser. However, the company has now been liquidated.
