Logistics giant Christian Salvesen announced it was shutting its Aberdeen depot. Managing director Daniel Stewart told CM that in transport terms, the closure could mean the loss of 40% of refrigerated traffic from the north of Scotland: "We are unable to get an economic rate for Aberdeen traffic and we cannot make provision for replacing vehicles in the present inflation situation," he said.

The move would result in the loss of around 95 jobs. However, because of the thriving oil industry, the unemployment rate in Aberdeen was one the country's lowest, and the redundant employees were expected to find alternative employment soon.
