Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Corporation of London's anti-terrorist road blocks around parts of the City's Square Mile have been extended on a six-month trial on roads further to the west,

Since the traffic management and environmental zone restrictions were imposed in 1993 following the IRA bomb in the City, hauliers have had to endure delays for load and security checks.

The Corporation says the measures have speeded up traffic by 50% in the area, but last month Labour MP Tony Banks criticised the extension plans saying it would only add to congestion and pollution (CM 2-8 Jan).

New major routes included are Queen Victoria Street, Ludgate Hill, Holborn Viaduct and Aldergate Street. Several minor roads in the City will be closed or converted to one way streets—leaflets detailing the changes are available from City of London police stations or the Corporation.
