YORK MERGER APPROVED.

A MEETING of York citizens has approved the promotion by York Corporation of a Bill providing for the formation of a company to run the municipal transport services. The capital in the new concern will be held by York Corporation and the West Yorkshire Road Car Co., Ltd. Thus is effect given to an arrangement, already reported in The Commercial Motor, entered into between the two organizations.

At the meeting, it was explained that the municipal transport system was remunerative until 1929, but at the end of March this year there was being accumulated a debit balance of £10,467.

EAST YORKSHIRE CO. TO ABSORB SMALL OPERATOR.

IT is reported that East Yorkshire Motor Services, Ltd., will probably take over on Sunday next the bus undertaking of Messrs. I3innington's. The latter organization owns some 20 buses, operating over several routes already covered, by the East Yorkshire concern, the fleet of which will be increased to some 200 vehicles.

NO TROLLEY-RUSES YET.

MANCHESTER'S transport manager, Mr. R. Stuart Pilcher, has made it clear that the corporation has no intention, at present, of operating trolleyhisses, although power to run such vehicles is being sought in Parliament.

DANGEROUS ROUTE ALLEGED.

HOLDING that the route is dan

gerous, the highways committee of Coulsdon Urban District Council is objecting to the proposal of the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd., to extend the single-deck-bus service from its present terminus at Purleyto Farleigh Road, Selsdon.

CHARGE FOR DOGS ON BUSES.

WHEN Leeds, Corporation applied to the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners, at Sheffield, for permission to impose fares for the carriage of dogs 844

on buses, it was stated that the corporation conveyed an average of 23,000 dogs a week. The proposed scale of fares was id. for each single passenger tare of 4d. or part thereof, 2d. for each fare from 4,id. to 81, and 3d. for each fare between 81 and 1s. It was desired to introduce them on January 1.

Subject to instructions to conductors being submitted for approval, the application was granted.

RAIL CO. ABSORBS BUS CO.

IT is understood that the Great Northern Railway Co., of Ireland, has acquired the Newry, Omeath and Carlingford bus service operated by Messrs. P. and M. Maguire, Omeath.

S.M.T:S NEW GARAGE. FOLLOWING the refusal of Dalkeith

Town Council to sell the Corn Exchange to the Scottish Motor Traction Co., Ltd. (as reported; some time ago, in The Commercial Motor), the company has purchased the old St. Mary's School, to convert it into a garage.

IIOLDING that the corporation had not the powers to operate the service, even if the licence were granted, the North-Western Traffic Commisthuiers have refused Wigan Corporation's application to operate a stage carriage service from Ince to Warrington. It was desired to operate a coordinated service in connection with the Lancashire United Transport and Power Co., Ltd., of Atherton.

MAINTAINING AGREED FARES.

mouth Corporation has promised to assist, so far as possible, the motorcoach owners' section of the Bournemouth Chamber of Trade, in connection with the maintenance of the fares agreed upon by the section. It is proposed that the hackney-carriage inspector should make frequent inspections at various public-service-vehicle starting points in. the borough.
