Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The different departments of the Rochdale Corporation have a large number of -Dennis vehicles in use, equipped with various types of body according to the special classes of work upon which they are engaged. The latest addition to the corporation's fleet is a 6-ton end-tipping wagon which Dennis Bros., Ltd., of Guildford, has supplied to the gas department ; the vehicle is shown in an accompanying illustration. In this vehicle the power of the engine is used to pump oil from the reservoir into twin hydraulic rams which raise the body to a high angle of elevation. The body, which has a capacizy of 225 cu. ft., is steel lined.

Amongst the lighter types of Dennis vehicle which the corporation has in use is a 30-cwt. Uovan, which was supplied a little over a year ago to the electricity department. As two of the

accompanying pictures show, the roof of this vehicle, which is specially reinforced, carries a light collapsable ladder having a small platform 21 ft. above ground level, which enables the machine to be employed for the maintenance of street lamps. The body interior is used to carry spare parts and appliances required for the work.

The Rochdale Corporation also uses Dennis passenger vehicles, and has certain E-type and ]?-type buses in regular service..

Republic Acquires a Tractor Works.

We understand that the Republic Motor Truck Co., Inc., of Alma, Michigan, has purchased the entire capital stock of the Linn Manufacturing Corporation, of Morris, New York. The Linn Corporation has been building

special.type of tractor, which is fitted with either a 75 h.p. or 100 lap. engine, since 1916. A special feature of the Linn machine is the flexible face of its revolving tracks, which fallow automatically the irregularities of the ground, as opposed to the form of track used on certain machines: of the tracklaying type.

It is stated that the Republic Motor Truck Co. intends to extend the sales of the tractor to every foreign country in which there is a distributor of Republic motor lorries.

Subsidizing Bus Services.

In the 1928 Budget of the French Ministry of Public Works, a sum of not more than 13 million francs—about £12,500 at the current rate of exchange —is provided for the purpose of subsidies towards the cost of running motorbus services in country districts of France.

Bridge Weight Restrictions.

A deputation from the NorthWestern Division of the Commercial Motor Users' Association recently waited upon the main roads and bridges committee of the Cheshire County Council to urge the modification of the restrictions placed by the railway companies on the bridges at Helsby and Hartford and Green Bank. The divisional committee of the association is awaiting the result of these representations.

Nottingham's Municipal Buses.

Substantial additions have been made within a recent period to the fleet of motorbuses owned by the Nottingham Corporation_ A through service between the city and West Bridgford, its principal residential suburb, is shortly to be inaugurated and, concurrently with the completion of a spacious new depot in Carter Gate for housing all—the vehicles, the acquisition-of further buses, for which accommodation could not previously be found, will now be rendered possible.
