Pegaso Troner TX tractor, launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1988. Sharing its basic cab with ENASA stablemates Seddon-Atkinson's Strato and the Leyland Daf 95 series, the TX gains a high roof and aerofoils.

Other high-tech goodies include the 96R1EX21500 12-litre in-line six-cylinder engine, with four valves per cylinder, turbocharging and intercooling. Power is transmitted to the rear single reduction axle through a ZF 16S160 16-speed gearbox.

Our Troner was brand new, still with protective coatings on the paintwork. Like all TXs it was fitted with pneumatic cab suspension, automatic temperature control and separate cab heater. The on-board computer incorporates a bi-level warning centre with store and recall facilities. Optional equipment included rear air suspension.

The four-level maintenance schedule matches the complexity of the vehicle. Service intervals are dictated by the type of oil used; and the sequence is: Pl, P1, P2, PI, P1, P3, PI, PI, P2, PI, PI, P4. Using the high-grade CD +SHPD multigrade oil recommended by Seddon-Atkinson, whose dealers sell Pegasos in the UK, service intervals are normally 20,000km.

Seddon-Atkinson arranged the Troner service with dealers Ryland North West. A P2 service was carried out by fitter Phillip Moorby, who joined Rylands on leaving school eleven years ago. He has completed many SeddonAtkinson courses and has been working on Troners since their launch.
