• Tom Jowitt Travel, the Barnsley-based independent operator, is winding-up its bus operation and selling its vehicles and services to Yorkshire Traction.
The company will continue as Tom Jowitt Leisure and will revert to operating only six coaches. TJT expanded quickly over the past two years into operating commercial services and high quality coaching, and recently became a limited company.
As part of the deal 28 buses and 35 staff will transfer and the company will be renamed the Barnsley and District Company, continuing to operate as a low-cost subsidiary from the present depot at Wombwell.
