Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Manheim's decision to turn its Gloucester site into a dedicated commercial vehicle auction is starting to pay off.

Manheim Auctions' site at Dursley, Gloucester.is enjoying the results of being turned into an out-and-out commercial vehicle site at the start of the year. With tri-weekly auctions and a wide catchment area it's proved a shrewd decision that is paying off.

Part of the programme is redevelopment. The Berkeley Road venue is undergoing a £2m improvement on the 10-acre site to develop better customer parking, a house on site, valet and reconditioning bays and extensive landscaping. While behind-the-scenes activities are being completed the auction itself is enjoying good sales, with 74% of its stock sold at the last sale.

HGV and plant manager Jeremy Martell says the current 110-strong stock going through comprises fresh sales rather than repeat vehicles where reserves have not been met.The sale underlines strong export business, with Malta the destination for five 4x2 1995 Scania day cabs that went for 70% over reserve price.

Rigids hold their own

The rigid market is still strong, with 7.5-tonners such as the Iveco Eurocargo with the tector engine on a 51-plate selling well. Midweight rigids at 11 and 12 tonnes are struggling, but the 18-tonne market is also doing well, Martell reports. Four two-axle Daf 210 55 Series curtainsiders registered in 1997 and 1998 went straight to an end user. Unusually, due to a contract termination, two Mali MT25 2003-built yard shunters were up for grabs and attracted keen bidding. Also on the books were Scania R124 360hp tractors and Royal Mail Daf 45 Series 7.5-tonne box vans. Four Iveco 400E38 drawbar car transporters went under the hammer too.

There were 39 Gray and Adams triaxle fridge trailers with Thermo King and Carrier refrigeration units. These all sold for export in bids that attracted over £1,500 more than closed UK bids across the board. • • More information: 98704440405; www.manheimenrope.com.
