A BOLTONTIPPER operator, who was disqualified from holding an 0-licence for three years when his previous licence was revoked in December 2000, has succeeded in a bid for a fresh licence. North Western Deputy Traffic Commissioner Elizabeth Perrett said his previous problems were the result of "youthful aberrations".

Liaqat All Majeed, trading as Majeed Transport, of Bolton, had sought a new licence for six vehicles and two trailers.

For Majeed, Andrew Woolfall said that initially Majeed would be looking to operate only two vehicles, one driven by himself and one by his transport manager, William Gardener. Consequently, Majeed could live happily with a licence for three vehicles.

In 2000, Majeed had been convicted of 24 drivers' hours offences and two of having no 0-licence. This was one factor that led to his revocation. The DTC commented there was a centre field discrepancy on one occasion and twice the odometer reading did not match the distance trace while Majeed was driving for Al Madina Transport.

Majeed said he intended to purchase two Volvo vehicles and proposed to join the Road Haulage Association and undertake training in daily checks, drivers' hours and tachograph rules.

The DTC granted a three-vehicle licence after she received a series of undertakings from Majeed. "1 put down all your previous problems to youthful aberrations." she told him.
