THE Commercial Motor Show will presage the entry into bulk-liquid haulage of Geoi'ge Ewer and Co., Ltd., Stamford Hill, London, N.16, one of Britain's biggest coach operators. • The company have always had a haulage department, but the operation of tankers is a new innovation.

Five Scammell tankers are on order, and the first is due to be introduced on

November 1. They will be operated under .contract-A -licences on behalf of a leading oil company.

Ewer's -tanker to be shown at Earls Court will appear in the demonstration park. It is one of the new Routeman eight-wheelers with Gardner 6LX oil engine and air-operated eight-wheel brakes. It will have a Scammell.plastics cab and a two-compartment 3,600-gal. tank.

A 'similar model, but with a 4,000-gal. tank, for the Crow Carrying Co., Ltd., will appear in the exhibition hall.

In addition to the two brand-new designs, described on pages 142-146, which Scammell Lorries, Ltd., are to exhibit on their own stand, they are to show a Super Constructor and two Scarab

three-wheeled tractive units. Scammell's own exhibits in the demonstration park will include a Constructor with Dyson trailer, a Highwayman normal-control tractive unit with 4,000-gal. tank semitrailer, and a 30-ton machinery transporter.

There will be three further Highwayman exhibits on the stands of W. P. Butterfield, Ltd., Thompson Bros. (Bilston), Ltd., and Mickleover Transport, Ltd., a Routeman tanker on the stand of W. B. Bawn and Co., Ltd., and several new matching semi-trailers which have been developed for use with certain Leyland motive units.

Rolls-Royce Engine The Super Constructor has been built for Tose and Nahum, Libya, and is a 17-ft. 2i-in.-wheelbase 6 x 6 model with Rolls-Royce C6.SFL supercharged oil engine developing 250 b.h.p, and 745 lb.ft. torque. The engine drives through a Self-Changing Gears' R.V.30 eight-speed semi-automatic gearbox controlled by

Scammell air-operated ratchet-type change-speed mechanism. A Fluid ripe 550 hydraulic coupling is employed.

Michelin Sahara " X " 16.00-20-in, tyres are fitted, and other equipment includes a fifth-wheel coupling for use with a Dyson semi-trailer, Woodfield Senior 60,000.-lb. winch. and twin 100-gal. fuel tanks. The 35-ton semi-trailer for this vehicle is to be exhibited on Dyson's stand.

The other Constructor 6 x.6 exhibit has been built for the Qatar Petroleum Co., and has a Rolls-Royce C6.NFL oil engine and Scammell 12-speed transmission. Michelin F.20 Y-tread tyres are .fitted to the tractive unit, whilst the Dyson 40-ton drop-frame trailer has Michelin Sahara "X" 16.00-20-in, equipment at front and rear.

Of the two Scarab exhibits, one will be a " petrol-engined 3-tonner, and the other. a Perkins P4-engined 6-tonnpr. The 6-ton model is. to be exhibited with a new type of 8-ton drop-frame semitrailer with flat, unobstructed platform.• Additionally, a Scarab 3-ton unit will be shown on the Edbro-B. and E. stand with a 3-ton 41-cu.-yd. tipping trailer. This exhibit is interesting in that the power unit is a Perkins Four 99 oil engine.
