AN amicable conclusion was reached between the British Transport Commission and the Clarendon Haulage Co.. Ltd., Preston, concerning an application by the company, at Manchester, on Tuesday. .
Clarendon wished to transfer four special-A . vehicles -of 161 tons. to A licence With a common normal user to read:"Chemicals, iron pipes, casting's, building materials, animal feeding stuffs; fertilizers, food stuffs, rubber belting to Lancashire, Yerkshire, Midlands,, north east England,South 'Scotland, Bristol and London.. . • • .
The proposed user .Covered the operations of one of the,vehieles but the other three had previously, worked only in Lancashire, Cheshire and Yorkshire. Mr. R. G. HOU, a, director, explained that the Users varied .coiisiderably at present.. 1-Ie wanted the three vehicles to be interchangeable 'and admitted. that in the past he ' had often carried goods
which were not specified on his user. An operational schedule was submitted for examination.
Two customer witnesses claimed that they would be in difficulties if they were deprived of -the Clarendon transPort. '• Mr. P. Kershaw, for the 13.T.C., who objected, pointed out that if the_applipa--, tion were granted there Would be 4 substantial increase in the areas of operatitin,.. The nature of the business had obvieuSly changed since the existing licences were' granted, he observed.
