monses issued against a Pudsey haulage company and one of its employees was made by Lt.-Col. D. V. Hodgson, chairman, at Pudsey court, last week. Double Ess Transport, Ltd., Cliffe Works, Pudsey, had 41 summonses against them for failing to cause proper records of hours to be kept. John Thomas Nelson, South Royd Park, Pudsey, driver, was charged with a similar number of offences for failing to keep proper records.

The chairman, who said that he knew something of the amount of work involved in this type of case, asked why it had been necessary to bring so many summonses. .Mr. S. R. Dalton, prosecuting, said in reply that the Ministry had in the past adopted the procedure of issuing summonses only in respect of the eases which suited them best, hut this had been criticized, he added.

Mr. T. A. Last, defending, said that it was not suggested that this was a gross case of over-driving. It concerned a new employee who failed to keep proper records and there was really only one offence.

Nelson was fined 10s. on each of the first four summonses and given an absolute discharge on the remainder. The company was fined 10s. on each of the 41 summonses.
