CRITICISMS levelled at Lancashire United Transport, Ltd., by the North Western Traffic Commissioners when they heard rival applications for an express service by the company and Mr. D. A. Morris, of Wigan (The Commercial Motor, August 26) were confirmed, last week, when the decision was announced.

Licences were sought to carry people attending Gaelic dances in Bolton and Manchester, and the Commissioners emphasized that they had been disturbed to learn of the circumstances in which Mr. Morris began the service.

PETITION TO FRANK COUSINS

THE text of the London busmen's petition to Mr. Frank Cousins, general secretary of the Transport and General Workers' Union, was issued last week. The petition will be circulated for signature among all London garages and be presented to Mr. Cousins on September 20.

It asks for his personal intervention in support of the busmen's claim for an independent investigation into pay rates and staff shortages.

Now that the National Road Passenger Committee of the T.G.W.U. has endorsed the demand for an inquiry, the petition appeals to Mr. Cousins to take up the problem as his personal duty.
