TC postpones revocation to allow operator time to make amends, acknowledgement of its honesty. Mike Jewell reports.

A MERSEYSIDE SKIP hire company has been given a final chance to save its Operator's Licence before revocation.

Though revoking the licence of St Helens Skip Hire, one of whose directors is the wife of a disqualified operator. North Western Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell has ruled the revocation should not take effect until the end of the year. The TC said that this would give the company, which had a licence for six vehicles granted last year, an opportunity of making a fresh and detailed application. If that was satisfactory she would grant an interim licence for six months, she added -but the company would need to address several problems including a poor annual test rate, too many prohibitions and operating trucks not shown on the licence.

The directors of the company are Gillian Mark and Patricia Glynn. In July last year the TC revoked a licence held by Glynn's husband James and disqualified him from holding a licence for five years for offences including prohibitions, poor test record and evading VED.

On the first day of the hearing, evidence was given by a vehicle examiner that six vehicles were being operated that were not specified on St Helens Skip Hire licence. The annual test pass rate was poor and vehicles had picked up a number of prohibitions.

A traffic examiner said that an overloaded vehicle had been seen with no 0-licence disc. The driver said that he was employed by JH Glynn Haulage. But it was found that the user was in fact St Helens Skip Hire. A copy of the waste transfer note showed that another vehicle had also been overloaded and the customer was noted as JH Glynn.

Further investigation revealed that St Helens Skip Hire held an interim licence, that both overloaded vehicles were registei company after previously being re JH Glynn, and that neither were on When the hearing continued, la.
