A N OTTINGHAMSHLRE truck driver sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment in Greece after illegal immigrants were found on board his truck will have his appeal hearing next month.

Tim Andrews is due to appear before Patras magistrates on 4 November after bail was refused (CM 18 September).

Greek police approached Andrews in June at Patras port as he waited to board a ferry back to Italy. His truck was searched and 14 stowaways were found hiding in his load of empty pallets.

He protested his innocence but later changed his plea after a Greek lawyer told him th pleaded guilty he would r( smaller fine and would pi be deported.
