COINCIDING with the introduction of • —• a 39/41-seat Pacesaver bus, Strachans (Coachbuilders) Ltd., Hamble, Hants, has announced a new five-year leasing plan for operators at a cost of £15 15s. per week for a petrol-engined model, or 116 5s. per week if a diesel engine is required. The bus is replaced by a new vehicle at the end of the five years without any disposal worries for the operator.

The Pacesaver is built on the Bedford SB5 chassis, is based on a model in production for the Ministry of Defence for some years and is consequently built to a rigid specification. It is offered for sale at a basic body price of £1,800 for operators who do not wish to lease the vehicle, and is claimed to be the cheapest bus of this type available. This price includes 39 seats; a large luggage container on the nearside of the engine, or a double seat facing the engine at this position, if required; a cash counter beside the driver; double-lined ceiling, cant panels and casing panels, the latter trimmed with P.V.C. to choice; KeyLeather heater and demister in the cab; and two recirculatory heaters in the saloon.

Externally the bus is finished in a twotone livery to customer's choice, with a polished alloy moulding with plastic insert at waist level. Additional equipment which can be provided, at extra cost, includes interior roof parcel racks.

Loughborough Bus Station : The new bus station at Loughborough (Leics) is due to come into operation on November 1. The present termini in Granby Street and Lemyngton Street will then be closed. It is also planned to close the terminus in The Rushes to normal services.
