Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ANOTHER " first " is established by The Commercial Motor in presenting a detailed survey of the wide range of standardized coach bodywork available to the British operator. This breaks entirety new ground in the way in which specifications, generally with prices, and illustrations of the models available are arranged to permit easy comparison between those available in each class.

The styles of bodywork available are divided into five groups, covering a range of seating capacities extending from 18 to 52. In making comparisons, it should be borne in mind that individual specifications vary, particularly in regard to items which are included in or excluded from that covered by the standard price, and it is advisable to obtain fuller information than can be given here before making a final decision between one model and another.

There are also generally quite a number of standard options in regard to extra equipment. As bodybuilding is to some extent a " bespoke " trade, it may also be possible to meet operators' special requirements in some respects.

The prices quoted are those of bodywork only. Chassis prices of most of the more expensive models are available only "on application," the reason for this being generally quoted as the tendency to mislead if a standard price is given when extras are likely to be required. Most of the underfloor-engined models have prices in the £2,500 to £3,000 range, however.

Chassis prices of Bedford models are as follows: VAS1 (diesel), £1,035; VAS2 (petrol), £850; SB3 (petrol), £1,025; SB5 (Bedford 330 cu. in diesel), £1,155; SB (Leyland 0.350 diesel), £1,450; VAL14, £1,775.

The chassis price of the Commer Avenger is £1,580. The chassis prices of the Thames Trader PSV model are £1,040 (petrol), £1,175 (diesel).
